When admiring someone else’s art, it’s easy to marvel at the finished product without thinking about the journey it took to get there. Over the years, I’ve had several conversations with beginner artists who get really frustrated by what I call the “messy middle” of the creative process. Scribbly strokes, bouts of indecision, making mistakes, erasing, re-working and erasing again… these are all normal and necessary parts of the creative journey and every artist deals with this phase.
I just wanted to share a quick post to encourage you (and remind myself) to embrace the mess! More often than not, my sketches are really rough and messy…
…but with a little persistence and patience, something like this eventually emerges:
Remember to be patient with yourself and embrace all those messy scribbles and sketches because with time, they can blossom into something beautiful!
